Summer greetings to all!

We hope you are having a wonderful summer season and staying healthy in the hot weather.

Looking back on the first half of this year through the end of June, DHR Tokyo office continued to meet the high demands for top talent in senior executive roles at foreign-affiliated companies in Japan. As a result, our business result for the six-month period exceeded that of the same period last year.

In terms of industry sectors, we met an increased hiring needs in the pharmaceuticals, medical devices, pharmaceutical/ medical device service providers, analytical/ testing devices, IT including FinTech, media/ entertainment/ consumer retail, manufacturing and insurance.

As for positions, the needs for talent in the commercial roles, such as the Japan president, business head, marketing head, account head, and business development head, as well as the needs for professionals covering finance and accounting functions, continued to stay high. At the same time, we saw leadership demands in highly specialized roles such as head of legal/compliance, head of service support, and head of IT.

There are some common themes, which continued from last year, among all of these positions relative to the competencies and skills being sought after by our clients. They value leaders in these roles who can transform the existing business models to new business models and can re-establish a strategic organizational structure to hedge various risks associated with the mature market in Japan. High digital literacy has now become essential in these roles to make full use of digital analytics. With rapid changes in the business environment, adaptability to work through changes has become a critical quality that our clients seek today. Moreover, leaders in these roles are expected to have high communication skills and demonstrate their accountability relative to clients, team members and other stakeholders. In todays business that value diversity, it is also important to be able to lead and motivate team members coming from different backgrounds and cultures.

Looking forward, we continue to serve our clientshuman capital needs with speed and quality by taking full advantage of our seamless, global business model which allows us to conduct research not only in Japan, but also throughout North America, Europe and Asia, to identify global talent. We also continue to introduce to our candidates attractive and unique opportunities that match their experience, skills and career goals. Our mission is to create the best possible win-win partnerships between our clients and candidates.

Thank you, and we look forward to continue working with you.
